Hawaii Pickleball Open™ – The Story, Vision & Future of Hawaii’s Premier Tournament
The Hawaii Pickleball Open™ was created with a simple goal: to build the best pickleball tournament experience in Hawaii.
From the beginning, the focus was never on having the most players. In fact, we believe that as tournaments grow too large, they often lose what makes them special—the personal connection between organizers and players.
For us, that connection matters.
There is nothing better than stepping onto the court and knowing the people behind the event—having a quick conversation, sharing a moment, and feeling like you are part of something more than just a bracket.
That’s what we aim to create.
A tournament where players are not just participants, but part of a community.

The Vision Behind the Hawaii Pickleball Open™
The vision was simple: Create the kind of tournament we would personally want to play in.
That meant focusing on quality over quantity and delivering a complete player experience from start to finish.
We designed the Hawaii Pickleball Open™ to ensure every player feels their time, effort, and entry fee are truly worth it—both on and off the court.
Key Factors That Define Our Tournament
- Competitive Format That Matters
Every match is played 2 out of 3 games to 11, win by two, across all divisions—ensuring fair, competitive play and meaningful results. - Enough Matches to Make It Worth It
Players don’t sign up just to play once. We structure formats to give participants multiple matches and real playing time. - Start and Finish Matches On Time
- We have enough time buffer to make it happen
- Clear & Consistent Communication
Communication before, during, and after the tournament is a priority.
Players always know:- Schedule updates
- Match timing
- Format and expectations
- Easy registration Process
- Simple form to fill and even easier way to pay
- Prepared for Hawaii Conditions (Weather Plan)
We plan ahead.During our first Hawaii Pickleball Open™, we anticipated a storm and secured an indoor backup facility, which we ended up using.
Players never felt uncertainty because we had a clear plan. - Player Experience & Value
We focus on the full experience, not just matches:- High-quality tournament shirts
- Light lunch/snacks
- Water provided throughout the event
- Personal Touch & Community Feel
We intentionally keep the event manageable so we can:- Interact with players
- Build relationships
- Create a welcoming, community-driven environment
- Controlled Capacity for Quality
Our target is around 200 players, allowing us to maintain a high-quality experience without sacrificing organization or personal connection. - Finish each division in less than 5 hours.
This approach ensures that every Hawaii Pickleball Open™ is not just a tournament—but a well-rounded, professional, and memorable experience for every player.

Domain Name & Logo
When we were thinking about the right name for a pickleball tournament in Hawaii, one thing became clear:
It had to be simple, strong, and memorable.
That’s when we discovered that HawaiiPickleballOpen.com was available.
We immediately secured the domain and took the next steps to protect the brand long-term:
- Filed a trade name and service mark in the State of Hawaii (approved)
- Submitted a federal trademark application to strengthen nationwide protection
This ensures that as the Hawaii Pickleball Open™ continues to grow, the name—and everything it represents—remains protected and consistent.

The Logo
Every great tournament needs a logo that represents its identity.
Our logo was created by Ray from All Good Pickleball, and it captures exactly what we stand for:
- Bold and recognizable
- Clean and professional design
- Built to stand out across all platforms
The design reflects how we run our tournaments—strong, organized, and focused on quality, while still staying true to the fun and energy of pickleball in Hawaii.
Together, the name and logo form the foundation of the Hawaii Pickleball Open™ brand—one that we are committed to building for years to come.
Player Development Pathway
The Hawaii Pickleball Open™ is more than just a tournament—it’s part of a player’s development journey.
We designed it to give players:
- A goal to train for
- A way to measure progress
- A stepping stone to higher-level play
For many participants, this is their first real tournament experience. Because of that, we place a strong emphasis on helping players feel prepared, confident, and excited to compete.
Training With Purpose
We believe that players enjoy the game more when they are improving and working toward something.
That’s why many players choose to train leading up to the tournament—often through the Hawaii Pickleball Academy™—to sharpen their skills and build confidence before competing.
And it shows.
Players who come in with a clear goal and preparation often:
- Perform better
- Enjoy the experience more
- Continue progressing after the event
Training with a specific goal in mind makes the entire experience more meaningful—and more fun.
The First Hawaii Pickleball Open™
The first-ever Hawaii Pickleball Open™ took place on August 24–25, 2024, at King Intermediate School in Kāneʻohe—and it was a great success.

In 2026, we expanded the tournament into a full Hawaii Pickleball Open™ Series, giving players more opportunities to compete throughout the year.
The series includes:
- Singles Championship
- Mixed Doubles Championship
- Doubles Championship
This structure allows players to choose how they want to challenge themselves—whether that’s testing their individual skills in singles or competing as a team in doubles.
