Pickleball in Waikīkī: Courts & Open Play Near Hotels
If you are staying in Waikīkī, you have one true public pickleball spot within the resort area plus several stronger open-play options a short ride away. This guide separates the public Fort DeRussy courts from the military-reservation Hale Koa courts and updates the nearby Diamond Head, Paki, and Ala Moana options.

1. Fort DeRussy Beach Park — Best Walkable Public Option
For most Waikīkī visitors, Fort DeRussy is the easiest public place to reach on foot. The public court area at 2131 Kālia Road has four outdoor pickleball courts and is used for casual mixed-level play.
Because the public courts do not have lights, think of Fort DeRussy primarily as a daylight option. Local players often gather in the morning, but there is no formal Oahu Pickleball Association schedule attached to these public courts.

What About the Hale Koa Courts?
Hale Koa Hotel also lists tennis and pickleball courts on Fort DeRussy, but those are reservation courts for registered hotel guests and eligible patrons. Hale Koa currently lists court hours from 7:00 AM to 9:00 PM, one-hour reservations, and a valid military ID requirement.
So if you are a general Waikīkī visitor without military eligibility, use the public Fort DeRussy pickleball courts rather than assuming the Hale Koa reservation courts are open to everyone.
2. Diamond Head Tennis Center — Best Organized Morning Open Play
Diamond Head Tennis Center is just outside Waikīkī and has one of the most reliable daily morning pickleball groups nearby. Local open play still runs roughly 7:00 AM to 2:00 PM, while the Oahu Pickleball Association currently lists its organized hosted window from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
This is the nearby option I would choose if your main goal is meeting people and joining a predictable morning rotation rather than hoping a casual game forms.
3. Paki Community Park — Quieter Multi-Use Option
Paki Community Park is near Diamond Head and Kapiʻolani Park. The City currently lists two pickleball courts lined on volleyball courts, and it marks the court area as lighted.
This corrects the older version of the article, which described the courts as tennis-lined. Honolulu DPR currently classifies them as volleyball-lined pickleball courts.
4. Ala Moana Regional Park — Best Evening Organized Play
Ala Moana is west of Waikīkī and currently has organized OPA open play on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
OPA asks players to sign up through Meetup so organizers can track attendance and communicate changes. The current sessions are listed for all levels.

Which One Should You Choose?
If you want to walk from your hotel, start with Fort DeRussy. If you want the highest chance of arriving and immediately finding an organized game, Diamond Head is the better morning choice. If you want evening play, Ala Moana has the clearest recurring schedule. Paki is most useful when you already have people to play with and a portable net.
